Coffee is most widely used as a beverage but it is also gaining reputation as an alternative remedy for skincare. Coffee is rich in antioxidants and can help to fight free radicals which are involved in damaging healthy skin cells. From dark circles to acne, here’s five little-know benefits of using coffee in your daily skincare regime:
1. Dark circles
Since coffee is naturally full of antioxidants, it’s a great ingredient to use as an eye serum to firm, tighten, and restore the skin. The caffeine in coffee is great for reducing dark circles and puffiness by improving blood circulation. So, not only does coffee wake you up, but it wakes your skin up too!
Mix one tablespoon of coffee powder with a teaspoon of honey and a few drops of vitamin E oil. Apply this mixture under your eyes carefully and wash it off after 15 minutes.
2. Acne treatment
Scrubbing the face with coffee grounds can help to clear away dead skin cells and unclog the pores. The chlorogenic acids in coffee may also reduce inflammation and protect against some strains of bacteria.
Mix together 3 tablespoons of ground coffee and 2 tablespoons of brown sugar. Add 3 tablespoons of coconut oil into the coffee mixture and mix it well to make a thick scrub. Rub this scrub all over your face, avoid sensitive areas like eyes. Leave it for 10 minutes and rinse it with clean water.
3. Anti-ageing benefits
Coffee consumption has been shown to offer anti-ageing benefits and contribute to improved insulin resistance, according to new research from Japan.
Mix coffee powder, cocoa powder in a bowl and add small portions of milk to make a face mask. Add 2 drops of honey and lemon juice to the mixture and apply it on your face. Leave it for 20 minutes and wash it off with clean water. You can store this mixture in fridge for 3 days.
4. Cellulite reduction
Coffee scrubs purportedly help treat cellulite in a variety of ways.
It’s thought that the caffeine in coffee can help dilate blood vessels and reduce the appearance of skin dimples. The skin may also tighten from the stimulating effects of caffeine by improving blood flow and eliminating excess water.
Coffee is also rich in antioxidants, which are thought to help promote overall healthier skin tone. These include phenols, the plant-based chemicals that are thought to ward off free radicals in the body.

Another benefit of a coffee scrub is the natural exfoliating effects from the coffee grounds themselves. Like other exfoliating scrubs, this can help remove dead skin cells and yield a smoother, more even look to the skin. While exfoliation itself can’t get rid of cellulite, such effects may reduce its appearance.
Mix together 1/2 cup fresh ground coffee and 1/2 cup brown sugar, add 1/2 cup coconut oil into the coffee mixture and 1 tsp vanilla extract and mix until well combined. Gently rub the mixture over your body—avoid areas around the eyes. Leave it on for several minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
5. Radiant skin
Coffee is an excellent exfoliator and helps in stimulating blood flow, which reduces acne and even cellulite and stretch marks. Important coffee face pack benefits are that its rich antioxidants kill dead cells and remove impurities, making skin smoother and brighter looking.
